What happened to you does not have to define you.

Experiences of abuse can affect how a person sees themselves, their relationships, their sense of safety, and their ability to trust others.

Talking about these experiences can be difficult. You may feel confused, angry, afraid, ashamed, disconnected, or simply unsure about what to do next.

Support can provide a space where you can talk without being judged or pressured to explain everything at once.

You are not required to have the right words.

You can begin with what feels possible to share. Your experience matters, and the conversation can move at a pace that respects your circumstances and boundaries.

Support for different experiences and stages of recovery.

Every person’s experience of abuse is different. Support should reflect your individual circumstances.

01

Listen

Give you space to speak about what you are comfortable sharing.

02

Respect

Approach your experiences without blame, judgment, or unnecessary pressure.

03

Explore

Consider how your experiences may be affecting your emotional and personal wellbeing.

04

Support

Identify appropriate resources, support, and next steps for your circumstances.

You remain in control of what you share.

You do not have to tell your entire story during your first conversation.

1

Begin where you feel comfortable

Share as much or as little as you feel able to during the initial conversation.

2

Talk about what you need

Discuss the areas where you would like support and what you hope to gain from the sessions.

3

Explore your options

Consider appropriate forms of support, resources, boundaries, and possible next steps.

4

Move at an appropriate pace

Difficult experiences can take time to process. Support should respect your circumstances rather than rush the process.

If you are currently in danger

Abuse support sessions are not an emergency protection service. If you are currently being threatened, seriously injured, or believe you are in immediate danger, prioritize getting to a safer location and contacting appropriate emergency or local support services.

If someone else is controlling your access to your phone, finances, transportation, or communication, consider whether it is safe for you to arrange an appointment before doing so.

You do not have to carry your experience in silence.

If you feel ready to talk, you can book a session and begin with a conversation in a supportive space.
